Abstract

1357706 Moving trolleys on rails AHASSLER 29 June 1972 [30 June 1971] 30376/72 Heading B7L Apparatus for moving trolleys 2 which run on rails 1 in adjacent kilns or drying chambers comprises a lower trolley 3 movable along rails 10 at right angles to the rails 1 and carrying a set of rails thereon parallel to and of the same gauge as the rails 1, and a top trolley 4 movable on the rails of the lower trolley so as to push one of the trolleys 2 on to a selected set of rails 1 when the lower trolley is aligned therewith, said top trolley having attached thereto a thrust mechanism 9 which is extended against stationary thrust members 8 on the floor of the kiln or chamber to effect a progressive advance of the top trolley and a line of trolleys 2 engaged thereby. The wheels 5 of the top trolley are driven electrically and the thrust mechanism 9, which is selectively raised and lowered by a rod and crank-shaft, may be a piston-cylinder unit, a screw-spindle mechanism or may comprise a toothed bar drive. A top piece 17 is pivoted downwards by a piston-cylinder unit so that a support 18 engages under the platform of a trolley 2 on the lower trolley 3 and is subsequently pivoted upwardly to take part of the weight of the trolley 2.
