Abstract
1357646 Filter element JESSEL CO Ltd 21 Aug 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 40912/71 Heading B1D In an inward-flow element comprising a perforate support tube 2 extending between end fittings 4, 6 and carrying a wrapping of wire mesh 11 retained thereon by wires 10, the wires 10 are welded to upper tubular end fitting 4 and hooked into holes in external flange 7 of lower fitting 6, which is solid except for an axial hole to receive bolt 17. The element shown is entirely of stainless steel, except for nitrile rubber rings 20, 25, but alternative lower end fittings may be made of nylon (Fig. 3, not shown) or have a nylon body and stainless steel flange (Fig. 4, not shown). In use elements are secured to a tube plate 14 dividing a filter vessel by through bolts 17 extending through the elements and saddles 18. Elements receive a diatomaceous earth coating before filtering, and filter cake is removed by reverse flow of carbon dioxide or water, with the vessel full or drained. Impervious strips 26 on tube 2 and the square section of wires 10 facilitate breaking of the cake.
