1372827 Filter element JESSEL CO Ltd 14 March 1973 12373/73 Addition to 1357202 Heading B1D A filter element of the kind comprising a perforate tube 2, supporting an exterior wrapping of wire mesh 11 secured thereto by helical wires 10 extending between upper and lower end fittings, is characterised by wires 10 being of square or rectangular section and oriented with flat sides parallel to the tube axis. Fig. 1 (not shown) illustrates the complete element mounted for inward flow on a tube plate (14) dividing the filter housing. A layer of kieselguhr is applied prior to filtration, and filter cake is subsequently removed by reverse flow of CO 2 or water, with the housing full or drained. Wires 10 divide the cake to assist removal, and an impervious strip along which tube 2 is welded forms another line of weakness.
