Abstract

Tubular membranes used in membrane filtration are cleaned in place at intervals. Gas is dissolved in a liq. under pressure. The liq. is fed past the membrane and the pressure is reduced. The gas is released as small bubbles which lift solids from the membrane and carry them away. Conventional cleaning with a flexible body is unsatisfactory if the body is dirty or damaged. It cannot easily be inspected. The membrane is also easily damaged. These disadvantages are not present with the method described.
