Abstract

1357201 Filter element JESSEL CO Ltd 18 April 1972 [1 May 1971] 12606/71 Heading B1D An inward flow filter element, which in use receives a preliminary deposit of filter aid, comprises a perforate tube wrapped with wire mesh 11 which is retained thereon by wires 10 secured to end fittings 4 and 6, tube 2 having two, three or four longitudinal non-perforated areas to form lines of weakness in the filter aid coating which assists its removal. Removal is by reverse flow of carbon dioxide or water, with the enclosing vessel drained or full. Wires 10 may be square or triangular in section with one corner abutting mesh 11, which further assists removal of the filter cake. Wires 10 are welded to upper end fitting 4 and hooked into holes in lower fitting 6 (Fig. 2, not shown). Tube 2 fits over reduced parts of the fittings, and bolt 17 and saddle 18 secure the element to tube plate 14. At least one of the non- perforated areas of tube 2 may include a welded seam if the tube is made from sheet metal. All parts are sainless steel except gasket 23 of plastics.
