Abstract

1357471 Pipe couplings A MEIER-SCHENK 21 Feb 1972 [3 March 1971] 7910/72 Heading F2G In a welded thermally insulated pipe-line having a protective sheath 4 to enable the pipeline to be laid directly in the ground, plastics material 9, newly foamed over the weld 7, has a non-planar interface with rigid foam 5, in order to give an improved sealing effect. Instead of annular recesses 10, in rigid foam 5, annular ribs or other formations may extend into the material 9. The end faces of the rigid foam 5 are shaped by foaming plastics material in contact with end shaping members. After completing the weld 7, the pipe ends 6 are coated with a rust preventitive material and sleeve 8 is moved to enclose the space for the foam 9, which is poured in liquid form through a hole in the sleeve.
