Abstract

1,075,463. Moulding foam material. E. ANDERSEN. June 15, 1964 [June 14, 1963], No. 24704/64. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] Foam material is cast in the space between an inner pipe, e.g. of steel and an outer protective pipe, e.g. of plastics material, the pipes being in substantially vertical position. The foam may be polyurethane containing suitable foaming and setting agents. Initially a small amount of foam material is cast and allowed to set or partially set to form a plug. Prior to casting a lubricant such as a mixture of stearates with oil or alcohol may be applied to the surfaces of the pipes which will contact the foam or alternatively a lubricant powder may be applied to the annular space which powder is agitated during the foam casting operation by a pneumatic hose creating air flow, the nozzle of the hose being raised so that it is always just above the surface of the rising foam. The compounds pipes are joined together by welding projecting ends of the inner (steel) pipe, shells of poly-urethane foam material glued thereon, and a heat-shrinkable P.V.C. pipe collar pushed over the whole joint and heated.
