Abstract
1342310 Insulated pipes LUNDVALL BROS Inc R W LUNDVALL E E LUNDVALL H A ANDREWS C W ANDREWS and T C WILSON 3 Feb 1971 3824/71 Headings F2P and F2C An insulated pipe is ensheathed by a smoothsurfaced, impermeable sheet, of thickness 0À030 to 0À060 inch, of synthetic resin, which is initially curled to produce a permanent curl then wrapped around the pipe and insulation, with longitudinal lapped edges being welded by fluid cement having a solvent of the resin. Such sheets are applied in discrete lengths with their end portions overlapping. The cement is applied to the contacting surfaces of the longitudinal lapped edges 27 of one sheet 25, Fig. 6, and also forms a wedge surface 28 to provide a smooth external transition between the lapped surfaces. The next sheet 25 is applied over the first sheet with the overlapping ends 26 cemented and the overlapping longitudinal edges 27a cemented as with the first sheet. For pipe fittings such as elbow bends, Tees, Wyes, the fittings are ensheathed by such sheets in the form of two overlapping halves cemented together. For valves, a hole is cut in the sheet and an overlapping cap is cemented over the sheet to accommodate the valve stem. At the end of the insulation section end caps of such sheets, have overlapping rims which are cemented to the ends of the sheets ensheathing the insulation. The sheets are of highimpact-polystyrene or acrylonitrile-butadienestyrene, and are vacuum drawn. The cement solvent is methyl-ethyl-ketone mixed with one of the above resins. The insulation is of rockwool, asbestos, cork or fibre, diatomaceous earth or an expanded rigid foam of synthetic resin. The pipe is of black or glavanized iron.
