1352689 Umbrellas FRANK HARLOW ENG Ltd 17 June 1971 [22 June 1970] 30091/70 Heading A4P An umbrella comprises a cover supported by ribs pivoted to a top notch 16 fixed to a shaft section 18, struts pivoted to a slider 26, and a shaft section 20 which may be selectively secured in alignment with section 18 or at an angle thereto at a position at or between the slider 26 and notch 16 when the umbrella is open. The section 18 is tubular and has inserts 32, 34 in the ends with threaded holes 42, 40 respectively to receive a stud 54 on section 20. The section 20 may alternatively be fixed at an angle to section 18 by screwing stud 54 into a hole in the notch 16 or collar 26, or into a bracket fixed to the notch or collar, or into a sleeve slidable on section 18. In addition stud 54 can be inserted in an angled bore in the insert 34. Plug-andsocket connections may be provided instead of screw-threaded sections. Alternatively the sections 18 and 20 may be joined by a clamp having a pair of plates to grip section 18 which are connected to a pair of plates gripping section 20 and allowing of adjustment of the angle between sections 18 and 20. A cap 36 is fixed to an upper end of section 18 and has a ring 38 for attaching guy ropes. The section 20 may comprise two parts hinged together.
