Abstract
1352688 Foundry moulding processes and apparatus J R SHORT MILLING CO 18 June 1971 [19 June 1970] 29997/70 Heading B3F [Also in Division C3] Foundry mouldings are prepared by mixing sand and a binder and supplying the mixture partially cured to a support surface 1 (e.g. conveyer with back-up plate 5) to form a continuous bed 4, while the mixture is still in a partiallycured mouldable condition, pressing a pattern 7 into the continuous bed 4 to form a moulding M and to separate the moulding M from the continuous bed 4 and, finally, completing curing of the moulding M. The binder employed may be a thermo-setting resin, a catalyst-cured resin or alkali metal silicate set by heat, water evaporation, CO 2 -gassing or an acid catalyst. The moulding station of the apparatus used includes a flask/pattern 7 reciprocated by a fluid motor 6 in step with intermittent movement of a bedcarrying conveyer 1. The flask/pattern (Fig. 3) includes a pattern plate 10 with a pattern 13 affixed to the fluid motor (not shown) by a shaft 12. Around the pattern plate 10, a four-sided flask 15 is slidably spring-mounted. The flask 15 has a cutting edge 16 to sever a formed moulding from the continuous bed 4.
