Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance of a mold and collapsibility after casting and to facilitate recovery and reuse of the sand by using both of inorganic binder and organic binder, respectively at the specific rates to the molding sand. CONSTITUTION:The sand mold is formed by mixing 0.5-3wt.% alkali resol type phenol kind formaldehyde resin as the organic binder, 1-5wt.% water glass as inorganic binder and further 0.2-1wt.% organic ester kind for curing to the molding sand. The above alkali resol type phenol formaldehyde resin is obtd. by reacting the phenol and the formaldehyde under existence of alkali catalyst. In such a way, by using both of the organic binder and the inorganic binder, the heat resistance of the mold and collapsibility after casting, become good by having advantages of both binders, and the recovery and reuse of the sand are facilitated.
