Abstract

1352407 Audio transducers PIONEER ELECTRONIC CORP 14 July 1971 [14 July 1970] 33138/71 Heading H4J An electrostatic electroacoustic transducer includes at least one fixed electrode and at least two vibratory film electrodes arranged to vibrate in different frequency ranges. The preferred form (as shown expanded) comprises two fixed electrodes each comprised by an electret disc 13, 16 surrounded by a polyethylene or polyurethane gasket 12, 17 and backed by a conductive plate 11, 18. Between the fixed electrodes are two frames 14, 15 carrying on their adjacent faces vibratory films 141, 151 forming the moving electrodes. The film 141 is 5 to 15 microns thick and is held under low tension so as to have a low natural vibration frequency while the film 151 is from one to ten microns thick and under higher tension to have a higher natural frequency of vibration. The films are conductive or have their surfaces rendered conductive. Various materials for the films and constituents of the fixed electrodes are given. The transducer is particularly suitable for use in headphones.
