Abstract

1352375 Presses LANGENSTEIN & SCHEMANN AG 19 April 1971 [19 Feb 1970] 22066/71 Heading B3H [Also in Division B5] A press ram 2 is driven downwardly by a wedge 5 moved laterally in a press head 4 by a threaded spindle 7 rotated by a motor 14 and engaging a threaded sleeve 9 on the wedge; a flywheel 10 driven by a motor 12 is connected to the spindle via a clutch 11 to supplement the energy of the wedge-drive during the downward operative stroke. A brake 13 is provided. The return stroke is effected by a piston and cylinder 6. In the modification of Fig. 2, the threaded sleeve 9 is fixed in the press head and one end of the spindle engages the wedge which is driven by a piston and cylinder 15; a clutch 11 and flywheel 10 are provided, together with a motor, not shown, for the flywheel. In a further embodiment the wedge is driven by piston and cylinder motors located on both sides thereof and the spindle may be horizontal with a brake at one end, the clutch and flywheel at the other.
