Abstract

1,187,587. Press tools. DAVY & UNITED ENG. CO. Ltd. 8 Sept., 1967 [13 Sept., 1966], No. 40888/66. Heading B3H. A press tool 31 is clamped to the upper crosshead 12 of a press by a rod 15 which in its clamping position extends below the surface 18 of the crosshead but may be retracted into an inoperative position within the crosshead. The rod is connected to the tool by a withdrawable cotter 33. Rod 15 is supported within an inner cylinder 14 and biased upwardly by a stack of disc springs 24. The inner cylinder has a flange 28 which functions as a piston in an outer cylinder 13. Pressure fluid is admitted to space 27 above the piston to lower the rod 15 and permit withdrawal of the cotter prior to changing the tool 31. The rod 15 and tool 31 may be rotated by an hydraulic motor 23. In another embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown) the tool is in two parts clamped together by a further cotter.
