Abstract
1352037 Continous casting A ADAMEC and R LEDER 19 April 1971 [3 April 1970] 25897/71 Heading B3F A mould assembly for attachment to a melt vessel or melting or holding furnace 3, e.g. for casting strip, comprises an open-ended onepiece mould 1 mounted in a cooling jacket 2 with an end part 1a projecting, at least a portion of the part 1a having a cross-section which encircles the mould cavity without a break and has a shape different from that of the crosssection of the remainder of the part 1a, there being passages 9 through the wall of the part. The part 1a is chamfered and, as shown, has a groove 6 in its underside and this increases in depth in the direction of the edge. Towards each edge, at the upper side, there is a wedgeshaped thickened portion 7. In another embodiment, the part 1a is shaped so that its side parts project further than the middle portion. The mould 1 might be of graphite and the position and form of the solidification front 5 of the melt is influenced by the shape of the projecting part 1a of the mould.
