Abstract
1351635 Continuous casting MITSUI MINING & SMELTING CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [15 Dec 1970] 23494/71 Heading B3F Molten metal having a Zn content of more than 99À6% is extruded by inert gas (such as nitrogen) at a pressure of 0À5-2À0 kg./cm<SP>2</SP>. through a nozzle having a bore in the range 20-250 Á and cooled, e.g. by a crossflow of air in a current of 3-5 mm./sec. to solidify 15-30 cm. below the nozzle, to form a fibre. The Zn fibre is said to comprise Zn crystals whose mean size is substantially equal to or greater than the fibre diameter. The mean size is defined as the diameter of a sphere having the same volume as the crystal. The fibre is said to be elastic enough to be woven for use as a catalyst or electrode.
