1351445 Automatic warehouses REDMAN FISHER ENG Ltd 30 June 1971 [11 July 1970] 33796/70 Heading B8E In a storage system in which stacker trucks 21 Fig. 2, are transferred between aisles 12, Fig. 1, by a transfer trolley 26, guides are provided on the storage racks and on the transfer trolley which co-operate with gearwheels on the stacker trucks to ensure that the stacker trucks are aligned in such a way as to compensate for any non-verticality of the storage racks. As described, the stacker truck has two upper and two lower pairs of guide rollers 27 which engage rails 19, 29 located centrally of the aisles. The stacker cranes are aligned by a rotatable shaft which has toothed wheels 33, 34 at the top and 35, 36 at the bottom. The wheels 33, 35 engage racks on the aisle guides and since the latter are attached to the racks, compensation is provided for the racks not being truly vertical. The wheels 34, 36 engage with racks on transfer members 39, Fig. 5, on the transfer trolley. The transfer members 39 are projected into engagement with adjustable stops 50 when the stacker crane is being moved from the trolley to an aisle and the racks on the trolley overlap the fixed aisle racks so that the alignment is retained. The transfer trolley accommodates two stacker cranes but may be constructed to carry one only.
