Abstract
1351105 Finned heat exchange elements PEERLESS OF AMERICA Inc 18 April 1972 [27 Aug 1971] 17971/72 Heading F4S Heat transfer fins such as 4, 5, 6 are formed as spines cut or gouged from the wall of a heat exchange tube which may be rectangular in cross-section with internal walls as shown, or it may be a simple tube. The fins are formed (e.g. by a cutter 20) in longitudinally extending rows in the wall of the tube and the free ends 11 in certain (e.g. alternate) rows are out of alignment with the free ends of the fins in the remaining rows viewed transversely of the tube (direction X). The base portions 10 of all the fins extend along parallel lines transversely of the tube, and the base portions of the fins in said certain (e.g. adjacent) rows may be in alignment with those of the remaining rows (i.e. as shown) or not (Figs. 4, 5). The tube is preferably of aluminium and the fins are formed as a row of fins on each of a plurality of longitudinally extending ribs 7, 8, 9 of the basic tube cross-section. Similar fins may also be formed on other longitudinal ribs 17, 18, 19 of the basic tube cross-section.
