Abstract

Coke ovens.-In a heating-wall formed of blocks, which are recessed to provide passages for the heating- gases within the body of the wall, the construction is such that more heat is transmitted to one face of the wall than to the other. The blocks are formed with end portions shaped to engage adjacent blocks as shown in Figs. 2 and 8, and the unequal transmission is effected by varying the depth of the recesses 21 along the reduced portion of the block, as shown in Fig. 2, or by corrugating the reduced portion at one end as shown in Fig. 8. In building a coke oven the blocks are assembled as shown in Fig. 11, so that more heat is transmitted from the wall 15 to the oven 13 than to the air-heating passages 17.
