Abstract

Barrel.-Consists in reinforcing the breech end of the barrel by securing thereto one or more external tubes by a drawing or like process, In the form shown in Fig. 3, the barrel a and tube b are reduced to the required bore and thickness by hot rolling, or drawing, or both, and the two are secured together either by drawing the external tube through tapering dies or by drawing such dies through the barrel. Other tubes may be superposed in the same way. The outer tube b may be tapered at b<1>, Fig. 4, by turning, and may be provided with a barrel lump b<2>. The external section of the tube b may be circular or polygonal.
