Abstract

1350416 Casting magnets SOC D'ETUDES ET DE RECHERCHES MAGNETIQUES 10 Dec 1971- [10 Dec 1970] 57576/71 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions C7 and F4] An ingot mould 3, Fig. 1, for receiving a molten magnetic alloy is provided with a heating coil 3a, and a cooled base 3b, provides a thermal gradient enclosure in which the alloy receives a columnar magnetic orientation. The base 3b may take the form of a conducting metal plate. In a modification, the sides of the ingot mould may be made of sand containing an inflammable mixture which can be ignited before casting or left to ignite spontaneously during casting. In a further modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the ingot mould is cooled by circulation of water in a pipe-line (10a). An induction coil (9a) can be lowered over the walls of the mould at the moment of casting.
