Abstract

1350081 Protective garments NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORP 24 Sept 1971 [25 Sept 1970] 45871/70 Heading A3V [Also in Division B7] A buoyancy garment is formed with at least one downwardly facing pocket having an unobstructed mouth which is arranged to collect and trap some of the air contained in the wearer's normal clothing. Fig. 3 shows a jacket so constructed with inner and outer P.V.C. layers 2, 7 spaced by a cellular liner 14. Layers 2, 7 are interconnected by straps 10 to define open mouth 16. Fig. 2 and 4 (not shown) illustrate the invention applied to a pair of over trousers. To provide adequate buoyancy to a wearer in the hand down position the pockets may be provided with additional flaps 45 (Fig. 5) which prevent the air flowing back to mouth 16.
