Abstract

1349612 Safety caps SUNBEAM PLASTICS CORP 9 June 1972 27164/72 Heading B8T A child-proof cap comprises an inner closure 10 provided with a rim 20 and an outer driver 11, provided with a lip 24 snap -fitted over the rim 20, the cap being screwed on to a bottle neck by engaging the teeth 25 of the driver 11 in notches 19 formed in the upstanding rim 18 of the closure, and the cap being unscrewed from the bottle neck 16 by deforming a portion of the skirt 23 of the driver 11 into engagement with abutments in or on the outer surface of the closure skirt 13. The portions 27 of the skirt 23 may be defined by pairs of slots (as shown) or by a single slot, and the abutments by recesses 21 formed in the rim 20; alternatively, the skirt portions may comprise axially-extending projections on the upper part of the inner surface of the skirt 23, and the abutments by recesses in the outer wall of the skirt 13. In the latter case, the projections are longer than the recesses so that they can only be interengaged when the driver is raised.
