Abstract

1348326 Castors TENTE-ROLLEN GmbH & CO 10 Sept 1971 [27 Feb 1971] 42364/71 Heading A4U [Also in Division F2] A swivelling castor wheel 1 is releasably lockable against running by a leaf spring 4 riveted to the castor fork 2 and pressed into contact with the periphery of the wheel by a toe-operated press member 8 which is axially movable and rockable in a guide bush 7, mounted on the fork 2, and having axially arranged sawteeth 12 which under pressure of the spring 4 latch selectively, with the edge 14 of the bush. The lock is released by toe pressure on a lever 16 fixed to the member 8. For locking the castor against swivelling the spring 4 is replaced by a two-armed spring-loaded locking rocker supported on a transverse spindle and having a latching edge for engagement with ratchet teeth on the bearing 3. In modifications, a cylindrical press member, secured to the spring providing latching pressure, has latching notches extending round its periphery for engagement with notches in a latching leaf spring riveted to the fork, the spring providing latching pressure being extended to form the release pedal, or a latching pawl pivoted in a groove in a cylindrical press member is pressed outwards by a spring and has axially arranged notches for engagement with a latching edge of the guide bush, a release pedal being formed as an extension of the pawl.
