Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide a caster in which both locking and releasing operations can be accomplished only by a treadling operation with a small operating force and an operating pedal can be located for easy operation thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Upon treadling of a releasing pedal 13 of an operating member 11 (to a position as shown in the drawing), a bifurcated cam operating portion 8C at a rear end of a stopper plate 8 is brought into contact with a cam face 14a of the operating member 11 to disengage a brake portion 8b of the plate 8 from the outer circumferential surface of a wheel 2 while a pawl 8d at the opposite end of the plate 8 is also disengaged from a lower dish 5 thus permitting rotation of the wheel 2 and oscillating motion of the caster. Subsequently, if a locking pedal 12 is treadled, the operating member 11 is pivoted in a clockwise direction to cause its cam 14 to bring the brake portion 8b of the stopper plate 8 into pressure contact with the outer circumferential surface of the wheel 2 to lock the wheel 2 against rotation while the pedal 8d is engaged with one of engaging notches 5a of the lower dish 5 to lock the caster against oscillating motion.
