Abstract
1344889 Laying railway track F PLASSER 20 Aug 1971 [28 Aug 1970] 39129/71 Heading E1G [Also in Division G4] A rail laying vehicle, which controls a heating and/or cooling system 9 to ensure that the rail lengths 1 are layed at an optimum temperature, comprises a mobile frame 4 which moves along the already layed track and a device for measuring the distance between reflective markings I, II, III adhered to the rail. After heating or cooling the first section of the rail between the markings I, II to an optimum temperature, the first marking is sensed photoelectrically and enables a pulse generator 5 to start a counter 7 of the measuring device. A pulse generator 6a supplies a pulse to the counter for each millimetre travelled by a wheel 6 until the second marking II is sensed. A computer 8 then compares the measured length of the rail section between the markings I, II with an optimum length and the difference value operates a magnetic valve or relay 10 which controls the heating or cooling of the next section of the rail by the system 9 to correct for the length difference in the first section.
