Abstract

1,083,274. Sleeper positioning apparatus. KERSHAW MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. March 23, 1966 [July 2, 1965], No. 12835/66. Heading E1G. Apparatus for positioning sleepers 75 below rails 11 comprises an elongated support member 14 having a sleeper inserting unit 38 mounted for longitudinal movement thereon. The unit 38 is carried on rollers engaging channel members 44 and has a winch with a cable 63 attached to a sleeper engaging unit 72. The sleeper to be inserted is engaged by an end face 77 and by forked arms 74 and is pushed under the rails until adjustable stop 70 meets the outer rail. Sleepers are moved to the unit 72 by a hoist having a grab 36. Sleepers are positioned longitudinally of the track by a unit 79, also movable along the member 14, having depending fork members 99 moved relatively to the unit 79 by a hydraulic jack. The forks 99 may be retracted hydraulically.
