Abstract
1,085,620. Setting sleepers. KERSHAW MANUFACTURING CO. Inc. March 10, 1966 [March 15, 1965], No. 10579/66. Heading E1G. In apparatus for positioning sleepers 13 beneath railway track rails 12, the sleepers 13 are supplied from a stack, on a main frame 10, to a predetermined location 36, held by gripper means 87, 108 on a frame 79 transversely movable in guides 77 on a frame 58, moved outwards from the main frame 10, lowered by movement of the frame 58 about pivoted arms 56, and moved under the rails 12 by further movement of the frame 79. The sleepers are loaded on to platform 19 by a crane 38, picked up by hoist 32 and moved by chain conveyer 23 to abut a stop 36. Hyd. raulic jacks 67, 71 raise and rotate the guides 77 to allow the grippers 87, 108 to engage the sleeper 13 when against the stop 36, thereafter the frame 79 moves outwards before the sleeper is positioned to be fed under the rails. Rollers 124 guide the sleeper and brushes 139 remove ballast from the top of the sleeper.
