Abstract

1344493 Conjugated filaments SNAM PROGETTI SpA 2 Nov 1971 [2 Nov 1970] 50975/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] A side-by-side conjugate filament is composed of two filaments formed from different polymers. These polymers are (a) polyethylene terephthalate and (b) a copolymer comprising repeating units of ethylene terephthalate and repeating units of Formula I where n is 0 or an integer from 1 to 6, and B represents a divalent carbocyclic aromatic radical and wherein the two oxygen atoms linked to the radical B are directly linked to two carbon atoms in the ring or rings of radical B. Radical B may be, for example, p-phenylene, toluylene, p-xylylene or bis(phenylene) methane. Copolymer (b) preferably contains from 3 to 25% of units of the above Formula I. The conjugate filament is preferably obtained by simultaneously melt-spinning the components (a) and (b), and the products may be stretched over a pin and heat treated in order to develop a crimp.
