Abstract

1344492 Conjugate polyester filaments SNAM PROGETTI SpA 2 Nov 1971 [2 Nov 1970] 50974/71 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] A conjugate filament is formed from two components, one being formed from a homopolymer of polyethylene terephthalate and the other from a copolymer containing repeating units of ethyleneterephthalate and repeating units of where A represents a divalent cyclic radical of either or aromatic carbocyclic nature having from 6 to 10 carbon atoms or a cycloaliphatic nature having from 4 to 10 carbon atoms. The two methylene radicals are joined directly to two carbon atoms in the ring of the cyclic radical A. Examples of A are 1,4-cyclohexylene, 1,3- cyclopentylene, 1,3 - cyclobutylene, pphenylene, p-toluylene and p-xylylene. The copolymer contains preferably from 3 to 25% of units as the formula units above. The components of the conjugated filament lie side-by-side. The filaments are formed by melt-extrusion of the components, stretching the spun filament and the developing crimps by heat treatment in the absence of tension.
