Abstract
Process comprises:- (1) conjugate spinning, into a coagulating bath nitric acid solns. of at least 2 polymer components each contng. at least 50% by wt. acrylonitrile, one having a higher acrylonitrile content and thermal contractability than the other(s) (2) stretching the spun filament at elevated temp. (3) drying the stretched filament (4) heat-treating the dried filament in the tensionless state at 98 - 150 degrees C and (5) stretching the filament at 90 - 260 degrees C, pref. to a draw ratio of 1.25-3.0. The filament is conjugate spun in side-by-side or eccentric sheath-core relationship. The fibres have high shrinkability and high latent crimpability and are highly suitable for production of good fluff-like fibres.
