Abstract

PURPOSE: Undrawn yarns of acrylonitrile polymer are drawn under specific conditions, relaxed, redrawn and heat treated under constant length, thus producing acrylonitrile fibers with high processability and pilling resistance.
CONSTITUTION: A spinning dope of acrylonitrile polymer containing at least 85wt% of acrylonitrile is dry spun and washed. The resulting yarns are drawn at the same time as the washing or after washing in hot water under such conditions that the effective draw ratio given as the formula becomes 0.35W0.8. Then, the yarns are dried and heat treated under relax to effect 5W50% shrinkage, then subjected to the second drawing at a draw ratio of 1.1W2.3 and 160W220°C. Finally, the yarns are heat treated under constant length at a temperature higher than the drawing one to give the objective fibers.
EFFECT: The resulting yarns have good tensile strength and elongation, dyeability, spinning processability.
