Abstract
PURPOSE: After drawn, polyester fibers are heat treated under relaxation at a specific temperature higher than the drawing temperature to remove the inner strain and cause the reduction of blended yarn in heat shrinkage and improvement in dyeability, thus producing title fiber suitably used for blending with wool.
CONSTITUTION: Tows of undrawn fibers of polyester containing more than 85% ethylene terephthalate unit are drawn at 50W100°C, then heat treated under more than 5% relaxation in a liquid or steam bath at 90W150°C. Subsequently, the heat treatment under tension is effected at a temperature high than that of the relaxation heat treatment to produce said polyester fiber with high dimensional stability. Without reduction in dyeability, yarns with low heat shrinkage are obtained even after spinning.
