Abstract

1375252 Wet-spinning polyamides INVENTA AG 9 Feb 1972 [11 Feb 1971] 6090/72 Heading B5B [Also in Division C3] Shaped articles are made from an aromatic polyamide having at least 50 mol. per cent of repeating units of the formula where Ar<SP>1</SP> and Ar<SP>2</SP> are the same or different aromatic radicals, the two chain extending bonds of each of the radicals being attached to non-adjacent carbon atoms of the aromatic ring. The articles are made by extruding a solution of the polyamide in a water-miscible solvent into a precipitating bath containing at least 20% by weight of calcium chloride. Preferably the polyamide is poly-mphenyleneisophthalamide or poly-m-phenylene- 5-methylisophthalamide. The examples relate only to the preparation of fibres which are preferably stretched when wet, dried and then hot-stretched.
