Abstract

1344411 Seaming W C HELLER Jnr 6 April 1972 [8 April 1971] 15862/72 Heading B5K [Also in Division B8] Thermoplastic parts 12, 14 at least one of which has uniformly dispersed therein susceptor means heatable by a high frequency magnetic or electric field are joined by heating in a high frequency field without the use of an intermediate joinder medium. A vial 10 comprises two parts 12, 14 with the part 14 containing particulate susceptor means uniformly dispersed therein. The parts 12, 14 may be brought into contact before, or immediately after, heating. In one embodiment, Fig. 5, the susceptor means comprises ferromagnetic particles selected from a class consisting of Fe 2 O 3 , Fe 3 O 4 , and CrO 2 and a high frequency magnetic field is applied by an induction coil 30 connected to a generator 32. In another embodiment, Fig. 6, the susceptor means comprises dielectrically heatable particles selected from a class consisting of polymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride, vinyl fluoride, vinylidene chloride, and vinylidene fluoride, e.g. polyvinyl chloride, and a high frequency electric field is formed between shaped electrodes 34. Cooling may be effected by air blasts. As shown in Fig. 2, the part 14 is formed by a moulding machine or extruder 28 supplied from a mixer 26 in which granulated thermoplastic material 18 from a bin 20 and particulate susceptor means 22 from a bin 24 are dry mixed.
