Abstract
1343667 Cable joints J T THOMPSON and G W GILLEMOT 14 Dec 1971 57943/71 Heading H2E A cable splice casing consists of two semitubular halves bolted together with flanges 14 securing a sealing gasket 20. Rings 25, 26 hold sealing material 28 to seal the ends of the casing. A cable 12 is mechanically and electrically connected securely to the casing by anchoring means which consist of a metal shoe 33 (Fig. 4) disposed radially inwardly of the cable screen 35, and shoe 38 disposed on the outside of cable insulation 36, bolted together by means of shank 32 and nut 42. The shank is further bolted to the metal strap 44 through any of the holes 53. In turn, the strap is connected to the flange 16 by screws 47, 47. The metal strap has a curved portion 45 so that the cable is eccentric of the axis of the casing (Fig. 3, not shown). The casing may be metallic, or if not has a conductive coating over the inside contacting the straps at both ends of the body. The integrity of the shielding is thus maintained throughout the casing. Strap 44 may alternatively be bolted to the casing at bosses 60, 60, see also Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown). Two cables may be accommodated by using two straps, Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown), or one strap in conjunction with perforated extension strips (64), (65), Fig. 10 (not shown). In all embodiments a bar (75), Fig. 12 (not shown), may connect straps 44 at each end of the casing.
