Abstract
1437839 Gas insulated cable BBC BROWN BOVERI & CO Ltd 14 Nov 1974 [16 Nov 1973] 49259/74 Heading H1A [Also in Division H2] A pipe type gas insulated cable having at least one conductor supported at intervals within the pipe by pin-type insulators has an intermediate portion having two portions of the enclosing pipe whose adjacent ends are partspherical and fit in the manner of a ball-andsocket joint and has the conductor(s) flexible in the region of the part-spherical ends. The flexibility can be provided by helical slits 5A in the continuous inner conductor, or by a separate helical spring wound from flat strip joined, e.g. by soldering or welding, to the two inner conductors. The pin insulators 4 may be attached to supporting rings 2 having sliding means 2A to allow for movement in the cable. Dust caps 7 and tape 6 are used to protect the inside of the intermediate portion before assembly. After assembly and alignment the tape is removed and the outer pipes welded together. The embodiment allows the axes of the portions 1, 1<SP>1</SP> to lie up to 10 degrees with respect to each other. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,401,115.
