Abstract

1343084 Printing machines OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN NV 6 July 1971 [16 July 1970] 31718/71 Heading B6C A cylinder carrying a sheet 8 to be printed or a master sheet or plate from which copies are to be printed has means for clamping the leading edge of the sheet 8 comprising a gripper bar 4 which receives the sheet edge as shown in Fig. 1, and is moved inwardly of the cylinder to grip the sheet edge, and subsequently, to release the sheet, is moved further inwardly beyond the sheet edge, Fig. 3, and then moved outwardly to eject the sheet. The outer end of the bar 4 is shaped as shown so that the sheet edge is bent inwardly and clamped against the edge of an axial slot in the cylinder, the inwardly bent part springing away from the slot edge as shown in Fig. 3 when the bar 5 moves further inwardly so that during subsequent outward movement of the bar 5 the bent part is ejected from the slot. The cylinder comprises a cylindrical casing 1 and end discs 2. The bar 4 slides radially in slots 3 in the discs and has followers 5 engaging cam tracks 6 to cause the required movement. The sliding movement of the bar 4 may be other than radial (Fig. 5) or the bar may have a pivotal movement (Fig. 6). As shown in Fig. 7, the bar 4 mounted on the cylinder 1 as in Figs. 1, 3 has a rod 15 at its ends projecting through a slot in gear 14 for the cylinders, the rod 15 being subject to the action of springs 28 so as to cause cam follower roller 16 on the rod to engage a cam 18 which operates the bar as described above. A second cam 19 is fixed to the cam 18 and the two cams are moved axially of the cylinder 1 by a spring 22 when a solenoid 27 is de-energized so that the follower 16 engages the cam 19. The latter is circular and dimensioned so that when operative, the bar 4 is permanently held in the clamping position.
