Abstract
1342472 Propelling and steering ships HYDROCONIC Ltd 19 April 1971 [16 April 1970] 18335/70 Heading B7V A ship's steering and propulsion assembly comprises a fixed nozzle 11 surrounding a variable pitch propeller and two rudders 12 placed forward of the nozzle. The stock 15 of each forward rudder is positioned between the extreme outside of the nozzle and 40% of the radial distance inboard of it so that each rudder is far enough outboard to operate efficiently in a forward-flowing high velocity water stream concentrated at the internal periphery of the nozzle. The trailing edge of each forward rudder is positioned from 2% to 20% of the chord of the nozzle forward of the leading edge of the nozzle.
