Motors, gearing for.-Shafts a, b are connected by gearing so that either shaft can drive the other, the speed-ratios in the two cases being different. Gears d, c of different sizes secured to the shaft a mesh with gears c, f loose upon the shaft b and connected thereto by oppositely-directed ratchet clutches g, h When the shaft a drives in the direction of the arrow, the shaft b is driven through the train d, e, g. If the shaft b accelerates so as to become the driver, as in the case of an electrically-driven vehicle going downhill, the shaft a is driven through the train h, f, c.
