Abstract

1341385 Aqueous dispersion polymerization BP CHEMICALS Ltd 5 Feb 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 4012/71 Headings C3G and C3P Vinyl chloride is polymerized under aqueous emulsion non-polymerization conditions to form a polymer having a glass transition temperature above 10‹ C., a monomer other than vinyl chloride is allowed to be absorbed by the polymer and before or after the absorption the emulsion system is transformed into a suspension system containing a suspension stabilizer and the absorbed monomer is polymerized under suspension polymerization conditions. The monomer may be styrene, acrylonitrile and/or methyl methacrylate. The emulsion system may be achieved by the use of a saturated fatty acid soap as emulsifier and the system may be transformed into a suspension system by addition of acid.
