1,265,492. Coloured polymers. VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT POLIGRAFICHESKOI PROMYSHLENNOSTI. 25 Feb., 1970 [25 Nov., 1968], No. 55726/68. Heading C3P. Finely divided, coloured polymers are made by preparing an aq. latex of a polymer which is insoluble in alcohol, by emulsion polymerization of one or more monomers in the presence of a monomer-soluble initiator and an emulsifier which is a salt of a fatty acid and adding the latex to an alcoholic solution of a dye to cause simultaneous coagulation and dyeing of the polymer. The monomer may be styrene, methylmethacrylate and/or acrylonitrile. The emulsifier may be sodium oleate, prepared in situ. Benzoyl peroxide may be used as a catalyst.
