Abstract

1341386 Aqueous dispersion polymerization BP CHEMICALS Ltd 5 Feb 1971 [6 Feb 1970] 4013/71 Heading C3P Vinyl chloride is polymerized under aqueous emulsion polymerization conditions using a saturated fatty acid soap as emulsifier, which fatty acid is not itself an emulsifier, vinyl chloride monomer is allowed to be absorbed by the polymer, the emulsion system is transformed into a suspension system, before or after the absorption of the monomer, by the addition of acid and the absorbed monomer is polymerized under suspension polymerization conditions in the presence of a suspension stabilizer. The second stage monomer may comprise unpolymerized vinyl chloride from the first stage polymerization. The polymers may be compounded with a tin stabilizer and stearic acid.
