Abstract

1341145 Reciprocating pumps R LUPERT 4 Feb 1972 [5 Feb 1971] 5377/72 Heading F1A [Also in Division B8] A device for metering two or more flowable materials in variable proportions, e.g. constituent materials of synthetic plastics or adhesive, comprises two or more pairs of pistons 2, 3 and 7, 8, Fig. 1 on piston rods 4, 9 linked by a slotted lever 37, the pivot 36 of which is adjustable by knob 62 to vary the stroke length of one pair of pistons relative to that of the other pair. The inlet and outlet ports 63 to 70 of the cylinders are controlled by slide valves 17, 21 actuated by motor pistons 26, 25 controlled by valve portions 5, 6 and 10, 11 on the piston rods registering with passages 12 to 15 connected to atmosphere and a supply of pressure fluid, e.g. compressed air. The air distributing ducts and ducts connecting the cylinder ports to respective inlet and outlet housing connections are formed as grooves in plates attached to the main housing 1, Figs. 2 to 4 (not shown). In Fig.1, the materials to be metered are supplied under pressure to the device the incoming material moving the pistons to expel the previous charge. In Fig. 5, the pistons are additionally actuated by compressed air pistons 77, 78 on piston rods 4', 9', the supply and discharge of compressed air being controlled by additional valving portions 84, 85 on the slide valves, and the air distributing ducts being formed in a plate 83 attached to main housing 1'. Pistons 77, 78 alternatively may be disposed outside the main housing. The pumping pistons alternatively may be the same diameter.
