Abstract
1339538 Gas-cooled reactors NUCLEAR POWER GROUP Ltd 3 Dec 1970 [31 Dec 1969] 63415/69 Heading G6C To avoid overheating of heat exchangers 7 due to reduced flow of gas coolant upon failure of the normal electrical supply to motors 9 driving circulators 8, a controlled amount of the coolant is caused to by-pass the fuel-containing portion 2a of the core and, instead, to flow through a cooler region, this cooler gas then being mixed with the gas that has flowed through the core portion 2a to cool the last-named gas. As shown, the cooled region comprises ducts 10 in the core reflector portion 2b, the ducts being controlled by valves 11. Alternatively, the ducts could be provided in the walls of the pressure vessel 1.
