Abstract

1339030 Rolling mills FRIEDRICH KOCKS 21 April 1971 [22 April 1970] 10387/71 Heading B3M A rolling mill includes a roll stand in which at least two rollers define a roll gap, the two rollers having different diameters so that the larger one, after suffering wear and a regrinding operation, may replace the smaller one. The mill may include a number of such stands in tandem each having three rolls. Each of the rollers after being reground, may pass successively through the various stands of the mill. The rollers are suitably profiled to form rod, wire, tubes, or profiled bars. In a three roller arrangement as shown, the roller 2 has a normal diameter, whereas roller 1 is larger and roller 3 smaller. This means that the height of the pass line is unchanged but is shifted slightly laterally. If the diameter differences are small, the speeds of the rollers vary only slightly, but larger diameter differences may call for changes in the gear ratios of the roller drives.
