Abstract

1338097 Erecting tower cranes LOIRECORD 29 Dec 1970 [26 Dec 1969] 61528/70 Heading B8B Fig. 1 shows a collapsed tower crane in its transport position. Mast 1 is connected to base 2 by a first rigid swinging bar 6 pivoted at 5 and 7 and shown held in place by a detachable brace 15. A second rigid swinging bar 9 is pivoted at 8 to the base 2 and carries a roller 10 at its free end pressed against the mast 1 by a cable 13 passing around pulleys 11, 12 respectively on the mast 19 and the bar 9. From the position of Fig. 1 the mast 1 is erected in two steps. First the cable 13 is hauled in to cause the mast 1 to pivot about the temporarily fixed pivot 5 until the angled part of the bar 9 is vertical Fig. 3 (not shown). The brace 15 is then released and a brace 16 secured between the base 2 and the bar 9. Further hauling of the cable 13 causes the mast 1 to execute the compound movement of pivoting about and sliding along the roller 10, now fixed, until the mast 1 is vertical and latching means 17, 26 connected. During this movement the bar 6 swings about the pivot 7. When erect the mast 1 is stayed by the bars 6, 9 elbow 18 of the bar 9 being pegged to rear face 4 of the mast 1, Fig. 5 (not shown).
