Abstract

1338082 Steering column switches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 19 April 1971 [16 May 1970] 23833/70 Heading H1N In an electric switch, a bridging contact roller 31 Fig. 4, is mounted in a recess (16), Fig. 2 (not shown) of a rotor (13) and yieldingly engages a base (11) carrying one or more pairs of fixed contacts 34, 35 which it bridges in predetermined positions of the rotor. The roller 31 is yieldingly pressed by a coil spring (17) to lie parallel to the switch base, but the axis of the roller lies at an acute angle to the line 33 between the centre of rotation 32 of the rotor and the centre of the roller 31 whereby the roller has a rolling-sliding motion to effect cleaning. The contact pairs 34, 35 lie at different radial distances from the centre of rotation 32 whereby different regions 36, 37 of the roller 31 are used to engage the different sets of contacts so that the portions burnt away due to sparking are not limited to one particular area of the roller 31.
