Description

Rheostat The present invention relates to a rheostat, comprising a series of contact pads with which a wiper cooperates.

This rheostat is characterized by the fact that said pads are arranged side to side, offset with respect to each other in the direction of movement of the wiper, the dimension of the latter, measured perpendicularly to its direction of displacement, corresponding to the space occupied by all the plots, also measured perpendicularly to this direction.

The appended drawing represents, by by way of ple, an embodiment of the object of the invention.

Fig. 1 is a schematic plan view of the rheostat.

Fig. 2 is an axial section of the rheostat equipped with a pedal control, and, FIG. 3 is a plan view of the rheostat. The rheostat shown can be used for any purpose, in particular for starting an electric motor such as for example the motor of a to machine. -to sew.

It comprises four resistors numbered from 1 to 4 mounted in series and four contact pads 5 to 8 each connected respectively to </ B> the input of one of resistors 1 to 4. The rheostat also includes a fifth pad, designated by 9, directly connected to </ B > terminal of output-- 10. Terminal of! -input 11 is connected to a wiper 12 moving in a translational motion in the direction of the arrow 13.

The five contact pads 5 to 9 are offset with respect to each other in the direction 13 of the movement of the wiper 12. The width of the latter, measured perpendicularly to the direction 13, is slightly greater- greater than the space, occupied by the five plots, also measured perpendicularly to the direction 13.

When the wiper approaches the pads, it first comes into contact with the pad 5, switching on the four resistors 1 to 4 ; continuing its advance, it comes into contact with the pad 6, switching off the resistor < B> 1, then with pads 7, 8 and 9, successively switching off resistors 2, 3 and 4 .

Thanks to this general -disposition, the total stroke of the wiper can be kept very low, being independent of the space which it should be left between the studs and not depending, in addition to the number of plots, that of the offset distance between each light. This distance can be reduced well below the minimum space which must be left between the studs for operational safety reasons.

In the embodiment shown in fi # g. 2 and 3, the wiper is a roller and the pads are part of a printed circuit. However, these designations, commonly accepted in the field of electrical appliances, have been retained here. The pads 5 to 9 are part of a circuit printed on a rigid base board 14. All of the windings 1 to 4 are mounted on a common coil < B> 15 located behind pilquette 14.

The latter constitutes a running surface for the wiper 12 formed of a rotating cylinder or roller carried by an elastic caliper 16 , connected to the input terminal 11 of the rheostat. The end of this bracket is embedded in a support 17 fixed to a pedal 18 itself articulated in 19 </ B> on a frame, 20.

The oscillating movements of the pedal 18 around the axis 19 produce the movements of the cylinder 12 according to the arrow 13. Thanks to the elasticity of the caliper 16, the cylinder is kept pressed against the plate 14 and successively comes into contact with> the pads < B> 5 to 9.

The invention is not limited to the embodiment described and shown : the number of pads could be different ; one could foresee the case small surface pads such that the contact is interrupted on a pad & ors # that the wiper passes on the next pad.

The resistors, instead of forming an independent bobbin, could be printed directly on Plate 14.
