Abstract

1312667 Retractive switches BUCHANAN ELECTRICAL PRODUCTS CORP 15 June 1970 [13 June 1969] 28981/70 Heading H1N An electric limit switch comprises a housing 12 containing an actuating member 36, terminal blocks 26, a switch 22, 24 having terminals in the form of contact projections 23 engaging terminal block 26 and means removable from housing 12 and separate from cover 30 for supporting switches 22, 24 in housing 12. As shown, these are two switches 22, 24 and they are supported in housing 12 partly by insulating plate 28 and partly by terminal blocks 26. Contact projections 23 fit through slots 72 in plate 28 and plug into sockets formed in terminal blocks 26 by the terminals 74, Fig. 4 (not shown), and spring metal clips 82, Fig. 4. Switches 22, 24 are also supported by projections 66, 68, 70 on plate 28 which also serves as a cover for the terminals and has a ridge 69 around its edges to lengthen creepage distances. Gasket 32 makes the cover oil tight. The switches are actuated by moving roller 20 which rotates arm 18 which rotates shaft 16 which rotates cams 40, 42 which depresses plunger 50 which depresses actuating member 36, projections 37, 39 on which depress the buttons 25 on switches 22, 24. Projections 37, 39 are eccentric and if rotated by means of the screw-driver slot in their ends adjust the amount of pre-travel of the actuating mechanism. Arm 18 is returned to its original position on removal of the operating zone by a spring 56 which bears on member 54 having a flat lower surface which bears on a cut-away portion having a flat of shaft 16. Plunger 50 and member 36 are returned to their original positions by retractive springs in switches 22, 24. The switch can be set to be actuated by rotating arm 18 in one direction, in the other direction or either way by removing flexible cover 44, depressing member 46 which frees latch 47 from notches 48 and sliding shaft 16 along so that cam 40 or cam 42 or both actuate plunger 50, then latched in position by latch 47. Turret 14 can be rotated by means of worm 58 and thread 59. In three further embodiments roller 20, arm 18, shaft 16 and cams 40, 42 are replaced by a horizontal retractive plunger 102, Fig. 5 (not shown), by a vertical retractive plunger 136, Fig. 6 (not shown), or by a retractive joy stick 166, Fig. 7 (not shown). Roller 20 can be replaced by a roller 200, Fig. 8 (not shown), comprising a nylon core, if required surrounded by a metal ring.
